Notes about the files in this directory
=======================================

This directory and the files in it are part of daic, the CAPI driver for
legacy active ISDN boards from Eicon, formerly Diehl (the boards supported by
the daic driver were sold only under this manufacturer name). As active ISDN
boards do only work with some firmware loaded, the daic driver comes with the
files necessary to drive the supported boards.

Strictly speaking the firmware files in this directory are not part of the
daic driver. They are from and belong to the Diehl Elektronik GmbH, which is
now part of Eicon Networks Corporation. Eicon is neither responsible for the
daic driver, nor will they provide any support for it. This is the task of the
FreeBSD community in general, and specifically the author of the driver
<mailto:twinterg@gmx.de> or other willing persons.

The firmware files are provided, so the boards will work without the need to
first download the firmware files from some web site. As the boards supported
by the daic driver are not sold any more, Eicon has discontinued developement
of the firmware for these boards. The last software package for active boards
for the Microsoft Windows operating systems was v2.15. The firmware files in
this directory are taken from these packages. So there is normally no need to
get a package from Eicon <http://www.eicon.com> and extract the firmware files
needed from it. This is only required if a different D-channel protocol but
DSS1 is needed (and the author of the driver has still not provided these
firmware files).

The firmware files in this directory have the following meaning:

dnload.bin - Bootstrap code for all S0 boards (S, Sx, SCOM, Quatto)
prload.bin - Bootstrap code for the S2m board
te_etsi.bin - DSS1 protocol firmware for the S board
te_etsi.p - DSS1 protocol firmware for the S2m board
te_etsi.sq - DSS1 protocol firmware for the Quattro board
te_etsi.sx - DSS1 protocol firmware for the Sx board
te_etsi.sy - DSS1 protocol firmware for the SCOM board

See daic.4 and daicctl.8 for how to load the boards with the firmware.
