Notes about the files in this directory
=======================================

This directory and the files in it are part of ix1a, the CAPI driver for
active IX1 boards from ITK, now part of Digi International. The boards were
also sold under the name Digi Datafire. As active ISDN boards do only work with
some firmware loaded, the ix1a driver comes with the files necessary to drive
the supported boards.

Strictly speaking the firmware files in this directory are not part of the
ix1a driver. They are from and belong to Digi International, formerly ITK.
Digi is neither responsible for the ix1a driver, nor will they provide any
support for it. This is the task of the FreeBSD community in general, and
specifically the author of the driver <mailto:twinterg@gmx.de> or other willing
persons.

The firmware files are provided, so the boards will work without the need to
first download the firmware files from some web site. As the boards supported
by the ix1a driver are not sold any more, Digi has discontinued developement
of the firmware for these boards. They even do not provide any software driver
packages for download any more. The last firmware files for the boards
supported are delivered with the ix1a driver in this directory. They should be
the (hopefully) best firmware files You can get for these boards, but may be
substituted by the user with other (older) versions.

The firmware files in this directory have the following meaning:

ixboot.scr	- Bootstrap code for IX1 Basic or Octo boards
ixb-1m-fax.bin	- Firmware for boards with 1MB memory, fax-g3 support
ixb-1m-modem.bin
		- Firmware for IX1 Basic boards with 1MB memory, analog modem
		  support
ixb-4m.bin	- Firmware for IX1 Basic boards with 4MB memory, fax-g3 and
		  modem support

ixmboot.scr	- Bootstrap code for IX1 Multimodem boards
ixm-1m.bin	- Firmware for IX1 Multimodem boards with 1MB memory
ixm-4m.bin	- Firmware for IX1 Multimodem boards with 4MB memory
ixpp.bin	- Firmware for IX1 Primary PCI (or Power) boards

See ix1a.4 and ix1actl.8 for how to load the boards with the firmware.
